Frequently Asked Questions
What units of measurement does this calculator support?
The Real Estate Area calculator supports 7 common real estate area units:
Square Feet (ft²) – Standard for residential properties in the US.
Square Meters (m²) – Used globally, especially in Europe and Asia.
Square Yards (yd²) – Common in textiles and some property listings.
Acres – Used for large plots of land (1 acre = 43,560 ft²).
Hectares – Popular in agriculture and large land measurements (1 hectare = 10,000 m²).
Grounds – A traditional unit in South India (1 ground ≈ 2,400 ft²).
Cents – Used in parts of India (1 cent = 435.6 ft²).
How accurate are the conversions?
The Real Estate Area calculator provides precise conversions up to 4 decimal places using standardized conversion factors. However:
Grounds and Cents may vary slightly by region (we use common averages).
For legal or official purposes, always cross-check with local measurement standards.
Can I calculate the area of irregular plots?
This tool calculates area for basic shapes (rectangle, triangle, circle). For irregular plots:
Divide the land into smaller rectangles/triangles, calculate each, then sum them.
Use a professional land surveyor for highly irregular or legal-boundary plots.
Why does the "Width" field disappear for circles?
A circle only needs one measurement (diameter/radius) to calculate area. When you select “Circle”:
The Length field acts as the diameter (distance across the circle).
The calculator automatically computes area using the formula:
Area=π×(Diameter2)2Area=π×(2Diameter)2
How do I convert between units for property comparisons?
Example: You want to compare a 2,000 ft² apartment with a 200 m² villa.
Enter 2000 in the converter, select Square Feet (ft²) as “From Unit.”
Choose Square Meters (m²) as “To Unit.”
Click Calculate to see 185.806 m² (so the villa is larger).
Use the “All Units” results to compare against acres, hectares, etc.
